Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Natural Jewish Parenting written for?
Natural Jewish Parenting is for all Jewish parents who care about their families’ health, regardless of background or affiliation. NJP aims to provide a unique mix of practicality and spirituality—the parenting and health information Jewish families need, in a relevant Jewish context. The editorial perspective stays true to Torah Judaism, but NJP's readers span the whole range of Jewish observance. The tone of the magazine is warm and inclusive, and the content focuses on what all Jewish parents have in common. Whatever your particular Jewish lifestyle, you should feel right at home reading Natural Jewish Parenting

Is there an organization behind the magazine?
No. Natural Jewish Parenting has been published independently by Yael Resnick since 1996.

How can I subscribe to Natural Jewish Parenting?
Just click on the "NJP Shop" button in the navigation bar to go to the online store. Or, if you prefer, you can order by mailing a check (US funds) or money order to: Natural Jewish Parenting, PO Box 466, Sharon, MA 02067. A one-year (4-issue) subscription to US and Canadian addresses is $24; two years (8 issues) are $36. Please see the NJP Shop for rates to other destinations, and for prices of back issues and other items, including some great package deals.

When will my new subscription begin?
Usually, you will receive your first issue within two weeks—this will be the current issue (the one pictured on the home page). If a new issue is due out very soon, there might be a slightly longer wait and your subscription will begin with the next issue.

Is Natural Jewish Parenting available in stores?
Yes. Natural Jewish Parenting is available in virtually all Jewish bookstores (please ask your local store to order it from Feldheim if they don't currently have it), and in many Barnes & Noble, Borders, Books-a-Million, and other general bookstores. It's also available in many large health food stores (Wild Oats, Whole Foods, Bread & Circus) and in some independent stores.

I bought a copy of the current issue in a store and I want to subscribe. How can I make sure my subscription won't start until the next issue?
If you already have the current issue and want to make sure you don’t receive that one as the first in your subscription, choose “next issue” when you select the options for subscribing.

How can I give gift subscriptions?
Natural Jewish Parenting makes a perfect gift for anyone with children, and especially new mothers! If you're ordering online, specify the recipient's name, address, and phone number as the shipping address. If you’re ordering more than one gift, just give one of the gift addresses as the shipping info, and provide additional names and addresses in the comments box when you check out. You can also use the comments box to specify a brief message to be included on the gift card we will send on your behalf. If you're ordering gift subscriptions by mail, simply include instructions with your payment.

How can I tell if my subscription has expired?
You will receive a renewal notice when the last issue of your subscription mails out. If you're not sure of your subscription status and would like to know immediately, just ask. And if you're pretty sure that you should still be receiving issues, but you haven't been, then there's a good chance that you need to update your address.

Does Natural Jewish Parenting accept submissions from freelance writers?
Yes! All of the magazine's feature articles are freelance-written. (Please read at least one recent issue of the magazine and request writers' guidelines before submitting your work.) A good way to break in is with a submission for the "Real Life" section, which is devoted to short, personal essays and poetry written by readers. There are also many departments in which readers can participate by submitting advice, ideas, recipes, etc. And of course, you are always invited to write letters to the editor to respond to what you've read in the magazine or to bring up topics of interest to other readers. NJP readers are actively involved in the magazine in many ways, which creates a nice, supportive feeling of community.
