A Truly Impressive Personalized Book That Isn't Tacky!

Amazing what a few decades have done for personalized-book technology. When we were kids, we all knew someone who had a scruffy book with their name and other personal details printed in strategic empty spaces in the text with what must have been a dot-matrix printer. But the digital revolution has been kind to the new generation of personalized children's books.

One great company is Make It About Me, which produces customized hardcover books that not only incorporate the child's name and hometown into the text, but also seamlessly include the child's photo in a very clever way on every page -- including the front and back covers. They have just three titles available so far, but I would bet more are coming -- and they make up in quality what they don't yet have in quantity.

I'm not personally interested in Sesame Street, which is the setting for two of their books (including a brand-new board book that does look cute and clever), so I bought my nephew, Eliot, the "Amazing Alphabet Adventures" book. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it's beautifully made, and it's actually well written and fun to read! Also, the photo-illustrations are imaginative and my nephew's face looks adorable in all kinds of costumes and scenery.... it's really very cute.

They go above and beyond what you would expect as far as personalization. The child's name or first initial make plenty of random appearances throughout the illustrations -- there are lots of surprises. I am not easily impressed, but I was definitely impressed with the creativity and care that go into this product. This ABC book makes a great gift for a child who is starting to read (like my smart 2-year-old nephew), or who just likes to sing the ABC song or is starting to recognize letters.

I would love to see this talented company put out an "Amazing Aleph-Bet Adventures" book! I have approached them about the idea... we'll see what happens. Please contact me if you would be interested in such a book and I will let them know that there is a market out there. I'll keep you posted!
